A few years ago our cable company added the Food Network to our lineup and I was instantly a huge fan. Last year they added the Cooking Channel. Add to that the many cooking shows on the PBS affiliates and I can watch a food show at almost any hour of the day or night.
My current favorites are Restaurant Impossible http://www.foodnetwork.com/restaurant-impossible/index.html , Chopped http://www.foodnetwork.com/chopped/index.html , and The Pioneer Womanhttp://www.foodnetwork.com/the-pioneer-woman/index.html (who also happens to be one of my favorite food bloggers).
Restaurant Impossible is great fun. Chef Robert Irvine, who is built like a Marine drill Sargent, gives himself 48 hours and a budget of $10,000 to transform a failing restaurant into a successful one. Chopped is a competition between chefs that are given mystery baskets of ingredients and a time limit to prepare an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. Some of the combinations are beyond wild. The Pioneer Woman is just good old fashioned ranch food.
