The Burr Trail Grill - Boulder, Utah

Hailey is an actress and a damn fine one at that, but this is a blog about food so I'll not dwell on her thespian talents (yet). In early October Mrs. Hendo and I (have I mentioned that she's the world's best wife and mother?), travelled from our home in Moab, Utah to Springdale, Utah to catch the Utah Greek Festival's closing show of Antigone. Hailey and Annie and Jared were splendid as always, but this post is about the lunch that Mrs. Hendo and I had on the way to Springdale.

Always preferring the back way over the freeway to almost anywhere we opted off I-70 and took Highway 12 from Torrey, Utah which climbs through the Dixie National Forest into the small town of Boulder before winding down through the spectacular Grand Staircase of the Escalante National Monument. We were perhaps a week or so past the prime fall colors but believe me, we still experienced some most wonderful reds and oranges in the aspen groves along the way.

After numerous stops to photograph aspen groves we arrived in Boulder ready for lunch. Boulder is sort of out there in the middle of nowhere so I'm guessing that no matter what direction you may come from you'll be ready to grab a meal when you arrive.

Our chosen eating destination was the Burr Trail Trail Grill and indeed we made a wise choice. Using as many local ingredients as possible, including local grass-fed beef, this place makes some serious burgers.  I opted for the Cheddar-Bacon burger - cherry-wood smoked bacon with aged white cheddar.

Mrs. Hendo selected the Spicy-Thai burger.

These were seriously good burgers and while at first we both thought that we would never be able to finish them we managed to completely clean our plates. My only regret is that by eating the entire burger I had no room left to try a wedge of the many homemade pies. Next time maybe we'll split a burger!

Don't miss the Burr Trail Grill if you should ever find yourself near Boulder, Utah.  http://www.burrtrailgrill.com/grill.htm
